Dentistry is full of new techniques! Do you usually feel the administration of local anesthesia (novocaine)? Has any dental professional mentioned that slight reshaping of your front teeth can dramatically improve your smile? Are you aware of new technology in restorative dentistry that eliminates the blackened silver/mercury fillings that mar some smiles? Have you seen how easy it is to whiten your existing teeth?

Absolutely – if you have put aside tax free money with your employer we will be happy to help you with the paperwork to use it. And if you would like estimates to help you put aside the right amount for next year, we can provide you with accurate amounts and make sure you don’t leave it with the employer too!
A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease, gum disease, and oral inflammation. Periodontists attend an additional 2 years of school following their 4 year dental program, giving them extensive training in the area of oral diseases. In addition to the skills and techniques acquired for diagnosing and treating periodontal disease, they may also be trained in cosmetic periodontal procedures.
Periodontists can treat patients with severe gum problems using a range of surgical procedures including the placement and repair of dental implants. A periodontist examines the gums for gum line recession, assesses how the teeth fit together when biting, and checks the teeth to see if any are loose. Dental X-rays may also be taken to observe the health of the bone below the gum line.
Some periodontal needs can be managed by the general dentist, but patients who suffer from moderate to severe periodontal disease, or patients who have more complex problems, will be better served by a team partnership between the dentist and periodontist. At Drs. Cooper, Spiller, Nahata, Lubinsky and Epstein, we can recommend the best course of treatment and partenrship for you. Dr. Neil Epstein is an active member of The American Academy of Periodontology, and Dr. Joel R. Spiller is extensively versed in performing endodontic procedures, restorative dentistry, surgical periodontal therapy. We encourage you to make an appointment with one of them.
